Accident: Bus vs. Oil Truck

 

    Just after 8 AM the Sterling Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus and an oil truck on James Rd.

 Upon arrival, Officers found a school bus carrying 43 Chocksett Middle School students operated by Courtney McKnight driving for the

McCarthy bus company of Brookfield had struck a parked oil truck of Cleghorn Oil Inc of Fitchburg. Five students were examined on scene

by EMT and were released to their parents on scene. One student suffered a cut to the mouth and others complained of headaches. The

remaining students were transported to school by another bus that was called to the scene. The oil truck maintained its integrity and there was

no loss of fuel.The state police commercial enforcement unit responded and assisted sterling police with the inspection of the bus and tanker

truck. There were no equipment violations identified with either vehicle. The state police accident reconstruction team also responded and is

providing technical assistance to the sterling police department. There have been no charges filed at this time. The accident is under

investigation by Officer David Johnson of the Sterling Police Department and the State Police reconstruction unit.
